Belmont, CA - At approximately 3:06 PM, the San Mateo Consolidated Fire Department was dispatched to a report of a structure fire in the 1500 block of Chula Vista Drive in Belmont. Initial reports indicated that a person was possibly trapped.

Upon arrival, our first due unit was directed to a victim located at a neighbors house. The victim, a male in his 70’s, was found with severe injuries, and a Medical Helicopter was requested to transport the victim. The victim was transported to Santa Clara Valley Medical Center by helicopter. His condition is unknown.

The fire was observed to be in a single family residence, and was in the main dwelling. The subsequent arriving units undertook suppression efforts, and brought the fire fully under control in approximately 45 minutes.

1 truck company, 5 engine companies, and two battalions chiefs, for a total of 26 personnel responded to the one alarm fire. Crews were assisted by San Mateo County Fire, American Medical Response, and the Belmont Police Department as well as Fire Investigators from the San Mateo Consolidated Fire Department.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. Damage to the structure is estimated at approximately $125,000 and 3 people were displaced as a result of the fire.

The San Mateo Consolidated Fire Department would like to remind the community that they should never re-enter a structure that is on fire once they are safely out of the building.
