FIRE INVESTIGATION ONGOING IN RESIDENTIAL STRUCTURE FIRE IN SAN MATEO, CA
San Mateo, CA – At approximately 4:26 a.m., the San Mateo Consolidated Fire Department was dispatched to a report of a structure fire near Second Avenue and S. Humboldt Street in San Mateo. The first engine crew arrived at 4:27 a.m. and confirmed the fire was located at 126 S. Humboldt Street, a single-story, single-family residence with a detached garage.
Fire crews from San Mateo Consolidated and Central County Fire Departments evacuated four people from the residence and an additional two people from the detached garage, which was also occupied. Residents informed fire crews that one occupant was unaccounted for, and fire crews entered the burning structure to attempt to rescue the occupant. An unresponsive 86-year-old female was found, and crews performed CPR. Sadly, the female occupant did not survive the fire.
The fire was controlled at approximately 4:45 a.m. and extinguished shortly thereafter. Fire investigators arrived on scene at 5:33 a.m. to begin to determine the cause of the fire. The San Mateo Police Department responded to the scene to provide traffic control and to support the San Mateo Consolidated Fire Department’s investigation into the cause of the fire. A total of 22 firefighters, six engines, a ladder truck, a breathing air unit, and three Fire Chief Officers responded to the scene.
The San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office of Emergency Services and American Red Cross were also on-scene to provide temporary housing and other assistance to the six displaced residents.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation and San Mateo Consolidated Fire Department will provide updated information once it is available. For inquiries regarding the deceased, please contact the San Mateo County Coroner’s Office.
