CERT Class 8: Review for Skills Day

Emergency responders assist a man with a head injury, seated indoors near rescue equipment and a jet ski.

In this unit you will learn about, and practice:

  • Extinguishing fires
  • Triaging and treating victims
  • Extricating a victim trapped by heavy timbers
  • Interior search for reported missing persons
  • Review and Final Exam

Addresses CERT organization and management principles and the need for documentation during emergencies.  Practice using the Incident Command System (ICS) which is used to manage a disaster and effectively deploy help.

Students rotate through various skills stations in which they practice and implement the course teachings over the previous eight weeks, and then students participate in a “mock earthquake” drill.

Pay attention to the protocols set in place and instructions given by instructors and trainers to keep you, and your fellow CERTs, safe.  At the end of the hands-on exercises, there is a graduation celebration for students who have completed their training.
